Firefighters in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam on Thursday successfully extinguished a fire that engulfed some 2,000 square meters of a protection forest the same day.
Nguyen Van Tiep, director of the Phu Quoc National Park, said after the park management board received reports of the blaze in Suoi Lon Hamlet, Duong To Commune at about 9:15 am, it immediately coordinated with the forest protection unit in Phu Quoc City and other relevant agencies to put out the fire, using three pickups, two trucks, one fire truck, a booster pump, and other devices.
They completely extinguished the fire at 10:00 am the same day.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
On March 27, the Kien Giang administration instructed relevant departments and agencies to deploy additional personnel to areas prone to fires.
The provincial government mandated continuous forest inspections and initiatives to enhance local residents' awareness of forest protection.
