The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), the investor of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro project, on Friday carried out a drill to simulate emergency incidents on the metro line prior to its commercial operation in July.
During the drill scenario, as a train traveled from the S02 - Minh Khai station to the S01 - Nhon station, passengers reported dense smoke emanating from a computer battery in a suitcase beneath a seat.
Upon detection, the train proceeded to the S01 - Nhon station for passenger evacuation and rescue operations.
To minimize the impact on the S01 station, the train only partially approached for passenger evacuation.

Some passengers sustained injuries of varying extents, necessitating evacuation from remaining compartments.
Authorities swiftly extinguished the fire, guided passengers to emergency exits, and assisted victims trapped onboard to safety at the station.

The emergency evacuation rehearsal successfully completed, with all stakeholders involved, achieving its objectives, ensuring the metro line’s system readiness before commercial operation in July.
The drill aims to assess the system’s response to major incidents, testing emergency crisis management plans and coordination with other agencies to handle emergencies effectively.

Currently, MRB is finalizing acceptance work on the elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line, preparing for the handover to Hanoi Metro, responsible for providing and supervising operations and maintenance employees.
The Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line will run 12.5 kilometers from Nhon in Nam Tu Liem District to the Hanoi Railway Station in the downtown area, with 8.5 kilometers on elevated tracks, four kilometers underground, and one depot.

Work on the metro line, the second of its kind in Hanoi, began on September 25, 2010 and its completion was initially scheduled for 2016.
However, the project was delayed several times for various reasons, increasing its total investment from VND18 trillion (US$731.5 million) to VND34.5 trillion ($1.4 billion).
