Following a landslide inside Chi Thanh Tunnel in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam, which disrupted train operations, Vietnam Railways arranged the transfer of nearly 2,700 passengers on board 12 trains between La Hai and Tuy Hoa Stations by coach on Tuesday.
According to Vietnam Railways, as of Tuesday afternoon, as many as 12 trains departing from Saigon and Hanoi Stations had been affected by the tunnel landslide.
The transfer between La Hai and Tuy Hoa Stations started at 5:30 pm, allowing passengers to continue their railway journeys.
As a North-South railway section linking La Hai Station in Dong Xuan District and Chi Thanh Station in Tuy An District was blocked by the incident, Vietnam Railways canceled the operation of Train SE9 set to depart from Hanoi Station on Wednesday.
Train SE10 scheduled to operate from Saigon Station on the same day was also suspended.
Many other railway firms have temporarily ceased train operations on the route.
Vietnam Railways also asked its transport units to inform their passengers of the landslide and disruption, as well as readjust their ticket sales.
Customers will either be refunded or be able to change their tickets.
According to a report sent by Vietnam Railways to the Ministry of Transport, the firm said that during the repair of Chi Thanh Tunnel, through which trains run on the North-South rail route, a landslide occurred at 9:50 am on Tuesday.
Soil and rocks fell from the ceiling of the tunnel onto the tracks and covered part of the tunnel, forcing the firm to block a section of the route between the two stations.
A few days before the incident, it rained heavily in the area, said Vietnam Railways.
