The administration in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam on Monday established an examiner council for an international contest for the planning of the Long Thanh airport urban area and adjacent zones.
The contest offers one first-place prize valued at VND2 billion (US$78,700), one second-place prize at VND1 billion ($39,300), and one third-place prize at VND500 million ($19,700).
The council, led by acting chairman of the province Vo Tan Duc, will help assess and rank planning ideas and choose the best one for submission to the Dong Nai administration.
The council consists of many prestigious Vietnamese and foreign architects, construction engineers, and experts.
The province previously issued a plan to organize the contest for the planning of the Long Thanh airport urban area to exploit the potential of the mammoth airport under construction and adjacent zones.
The contest organizer aimed to attract innovative planning ideas from both domestic and international experts and planners, and then select the best proposals that meet the requirements for planning, architecture, culture, socio-economic effectiveness, national defense, security, and environmental protection.
Contestants will include prestigious domestic and international companies, organizations, and consortiums specializing in planning, design, architecture, and consulting.
The Dong Nai authorities will give priority to those experienced in strategy consulting and urban planning and have conducted similar projects.
The Long Thanh airport urban area was planned to cover 57,000 hectares, including the adjacent areas of Long Thanh International Airport in Long Thanh, Nhon Trach, Cam My, Thong Nhat, and Trang Bom Districts.
Once the contest’s results are produced in August this year, the province will choose breakthrough ideas for the Long Thanh airport urban area planning until 2045.
