A group of tourists from Thai Binh Province in northern Vietnam denounced a restaurant in Quang Ninh Province, home to the world-renowned Ha Long Bay, also in the north, for chasing them away as they were shooting videos of their complaint about the high prices of dishes at the restaurant.
Doan Thi Lan Phuong, one of the tourists, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that the restaurant showed signs of overcharging and its owner displayed unethical behavior.
Phuong narrated that at about 1:30 pm on Monday, her family entered Minh Phi Restaurant in Ha Khau Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province for lunch.
After paying over VND2.3 million (US$91) for their meal, Phuong had a look at the bill and supposed the restaurant had fleeced them, so she asked the restaurant to check it again.
According to Phuong, it was expensive to price a dish of 10 roasted mantis shrimp at VND765,000 ($30) and a bowl of clam soup at VND200,000 ($8).
She just asked if the restaurant made any mistake in the bill calculation, Phuong noted.
“A member of my family recorded videos of the process as evidence to prove that we discussed [the issue] gently to clarify if the price of the meal was reasonable or not," Phuong said.
"We did not mean to disrupt or cause trouble for the restaurant.”
However, while they were talking with a staffer, a man came closer to them with an unfriendly attitude and forced them to stop filming, Phuong recalled.

The tourists did not agree as the restaurant also had cameras, they recorded videos as proof just in case the diner accused them of causing trouble, Phuong added.
As the tourists refused to stop filming, the man hurled offensive words at them, while some other men pushed them out of the restaurant.
The tourists later reported the case to the police and administration in Ha Khau Ward.
Vu Duc Cuong, chairman of the Ha Khau Ward People’s Committee, said the ward had joined forces with police as well as the local culture and information division to work with the restaurant owner on Tuesday.
Local authorities are working to clarify the case before punishing the restaurant.
The restaurant owner has apologized to the tourists for his and other employees’ inappropriate behavior and failure to list prices, Cuong informed.
