-- Vietnamese State President To Lam will pay state visits to Laos and Cambodia from Thursday to Saturday this week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday.

-- The United States Navy’s Seventh Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge and U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche arrived at Cam Ranh International Port in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam on Monday for a five-day joint navy - coast guard routine port visit.

-- Health authorities in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam have identified 119 people in contact with an 18-year-old girl who died of diphtheria on Friday last week, a local official said on Monday.

-- The administration in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has allowed a night market near the iconic Dragon Bridge in Son Tra District to continue operating at the location until the end of September. The city had earlier ceased the operation of the night market at the location from July.

-- Authorities in Bao Loc City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong said on Monday that more than 26,000 metric tons of untreated garbage was swamping a waste treatment plant in the city after many workers gave up their jobs as they did not get paid.

-- A whale was seen off the coast of An Hai Commune in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam, on Monday. Local authorities believe this is the same whale that was spotted near Mui Dien (Dien Cape), also in Phu Yen, four days earlier.

-- Tasco Auto, Vietnam’s largest auto distributor, announced on Monday that it is holding a 100-percent stake at Sweden Auto Co. Ltd., the only importer and distributor of Volvo cars in the Southeast Asian country.

-- “Hurricane Beryl lashed Texas with strong winds and heavy rain on Monday as it churned inland, forcing the closure of oil ports, cancellation of hundreds of flights and leaving nearly 2 million homes and businesses without power,” Reuters reported.
