The standing board of the Party Committee in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam has given its nod to a project building a VND700-billion (US$28 million) warehouse with a capacity of 30 million metric tons per year to boost the import of coal from Laos.
The Office of the Party Committee said on Tuesday that it had announced the conclusion made by the standing board about the warehouse project in A Ngo Commune, Dakrong District.
The provincial People’s Committee was assigned to direct relevant departments and agencies to review and assess the investor’s financial capacity and guide the investor on how to complete all procedures in line with prevailing regulations.
The investor must pledge to execute the project as scheduled after being granted an investment certificate.
According to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, the project was proposed by Nam Tien Limited Liability Company at an estimated cost of VND700 billion.

When in place, the warehouse will not only provide better storage services and facilitate goods transport by road, but also enhance the import of coal from Laos.
The warehouse, which will cover an area of 12.5 hectares upon completion, will operate for 30 years.
The daily volume of coal imported from Laos into Vietnam through the La Lay international border gate is up to 12,000 metric tons per day.
Some 500 trucks travel between Quang Tri and Laos’ Salavan Province every day.
The border gate area is experiencing significant challenges due to its limited space and deteriorating traffic infrastructure.
The lack of warehouses in the Vietnamese province exacerbates the situation, resulting in prolonged traffic jams near the border gate.
