Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation conducted an inspection of several key projects in Da Nang, including the planned land reclamation area intended for a free trade zone (FTZ) and the separate Lien Chieu Port project, on Sunday.
The delegation included Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, as well as leaders from various ministries and local departments in Da Nang, located along the coast in central Vietnam.
Prime Minister Chinh visited a prospective site for Da Nang's FTZ near Nguyen Tat Thanh Road, an area earmarked for logistic services covering roughly 420 hectares.

During his inspection, he underscored the importance of land reclamation to generate new land and broaden development opportunities.
He also insisted on a precise analysis of the materials required for the reclamation.
The newly reclaimed land, he noted, should be utilized in line with its intended purpose as an FTZ, with the most strategic locations reserved for business and production.
Later that day, PM Chinh also toured the infrastructure investments in the Lien Chieu Port area and the coastal road linking to the port.
As one of Vietnam’s three deep-water ports, Lien Chieu Port represents a crucial project for which Da Nang is aggressively pursuing investment.
It is expected to accommodate general cargo ships of up to 100,000 tonnes and container ships with capacities of 6,000-8,000 TEUs.

Construction of the shared infrastructure at Lien Chieu Port, which carries a cost of VND3,426 billion (US$137.7 million), began at the end of 2022 and is slated to be completed by November 2025.
The current progress matches the plan.
During his site survey, the prime minister laid emphasis on developing Lien Chieu Port with a dual-use approach, serving multiple industries and sectors.
He also called for a thorough environmental impact assessment, comprehensive long-term planning, and a focus on implementing transportation connectivity projects.
Prime Minister Chinh urged the mobilization of resources from both central and local governments, as well as from private investors, to complete the shared infrastructure and coastal road connection by August 30, 2025.

Regarding the selection of an investor for the port, the official insisted on choosing one with the best plan, who would take primary responsibility for the project.
This investor, he suggested, could collaborate with other enterprises to execute the project effectively.
"Da Nang must concentrate its resources on land clearance for this major infrastructure project and the FTZ," the prime minister underlined, encouraging the involvement of youth and women's unions in tasks they can contribute to, and urging the entire political system to participate in the efforts.
"The resettlement process must be well-managed.”
The official said that such resettlement should improve or at least maintain the living conditions of relocated residents.
During his visit, the chief of government also inspected other key projects in Da Nang, including the South Hai Van Tunnel Bypass - Hoang Van Thai Intersection (Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan Expressway), the proposed FTZ site on Hoang Van Thai Road, and the Western Ring Road - National Highway 14B - National Highway 14B Intersection with the North - South Expressway.
