-- New Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei arrived in Hanoi on Wednesday. He is the 19th envoy since Vietnam and China established diplomatic relations in 1950.

-- Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member and Ho Chi Minh City Party secretary, met with Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, in on Thursday, welcoming him to the city and praised Laos' recent achievements in political stability, economic growth, national defense, and international relations.

Society

-- Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, India's largest conglomerate specializing in infrastructure and energy, has announced a contribution of US$1 million to support Vietnam in recovering from the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, locally known as storm No. 3.

-- The Australian government will provide Vietnam with A$3 million ($2,017,500) for humanitarian relief, emergency supplies, and other essential services in response to the devastating typhoon Yagi, which made landfall in the Southeast Asian country last weekend, according to a media release posted on the website of Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong.

-- Switzerland is offering assistance to Vietnam in the wake of typhoon Yagi, with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation deploying six specialists from the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit to Vietnam, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Thursday. The SDC has also made available one million Swiss francs ($1,176,869) to assist the affected population.

-- The Insurance Supervisory Authority under Vietnam's Ministry of Finance has said that as of Thursday, insurance companies had received reports of over 9,000 cases of property and motor vehicle damage, along with 14 fatalities and 18 health insurance claims in the wake of super storm Yagi. The total compensation for human and property losses is estimated at around VND7 trillion ($284,726,400).

-- The Vietnam State Treasury has announced that it will buy $100 million, settling it on Monday next week. The treasury had bought $250 million on two occasions from commercial banks.
