-- Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam To Lam on Tuesday hosted a reception for Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei, who came to present his credentials to the top Vietnamese leader.

-- A fast-moving tropical depression is traveling toward the coast of Quang Binh Province and Da Nang City in central Vietnam and could intensify into a storm in the next 24 hours, bringing heavy rainfall of 100-300mm to the central region from Wednesday to Friday, said the national weather agency on Wednesday morning.

-- Authorities in Binh Dinh and Phu Yen Provinces, south-central Vietnam have taken action in response to the tropical depression, informing vessel owners, captains, and operators of hydropower reservoirs of the system’s path, urging them to prepare for a possible storm.

-- Vietravel Airlines on Tuesday announced the appointment of Dao Duc Vu as its CEO, effective from September 4, following the resignation of former CEO Nguyen Minh Hai due to personal reasons.

-- The administration of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam on Tuesday approved the establishment of a five-company consortium which will be responsible for developing the 294-ha Hiep Hoa urban area project in the provincial city of Bien Hoa, with a total investment of over VND72 trillion (US$2.9 billion).

-- The Furama - Ariyana Da Nang tourism complex in Da Nang City, central Vietnam has purchased a robot at $15,000 from overseas to serve its guests. The robot is being transported to the city and will be showcased at the Furama Resort in the next few days, Andre Pierre, general manager of the complex, revealed on Tuesday.

World news

-- Militant group Hezbollah promised to retaliate against Israel after accusing it of detonating pagers across Lebanon on Tuesday, killing nine people and wounding nearly 3,000 others who included fighters and Iran's envoy to Beirut, Reuters reported.

-- Reuters cited wildlife authorities in Zimbabwe as saying on Tuesday that this country plans to cull 200 elephants to feed communities facing acute hunger after the worst drought in four decades.
