Around 400 tourists from Czechia arrived on Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam on Thursday for a sightseeing and leisure trip.
The Kien Giang Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center, in collaboration with the Phu Quoc City People’s Committee and the provincial Department of Tourism, welcomed the group to the island.
The tourists will stay on Phu Quoc for a week to enjoy the island’s entertainment offerings, such as Grand World Phu Quoc, Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, Sunset Town, and Thom Islet.
The trip is meant to offer the visitors the opportunity to experience the local landscape, culture, and daily lives of the islanders.
Quang Xuan Lua, director of the Kien Giang Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center, said that October is an ideal time to visit Phu Quoc, and that Phu Quoc plans to welcome a delegation of some 400 travelers from Slovakia on Monday next week.
The island is expected to be bustling with international tourists until the end of the year, Lua said.
Phu Quoc served about 6,410 tourists from Czechia in 2023. That figure rose to 8,600 in just the January-September period this year, according to the Kien Giang Department of Tourism.
In the year to date, Kien Giang Province has welcomed more than 8.8 million tourist arrivals, meeting 95.8 percent of the full-year target, and earned VND21.5 trillion (US$845.4 million) in tourism revenue.
Phu Quoc alone welcomed over 5.2 million visitors, including nearly 800,000 international guests, exceeding the 2024 target by 20 percent, Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper reported.
