A low-pressure system is currently affecting the waters off Ho Chi Minh City and the southern coast of Vietnam, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and thunderstorms that pose risks to maritime activities, according to the southern hydrometeorological center.

On Sunday, the waters of the southern metropolis experienced eastward winds at 39-61kph, with gusts reaching 62-88kph, creating rough seas.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast, increasing the risk of sudden gusts.

These hazardous weather conditions could persist until Tuesday, after which everything is expected to subside gradually.

The southern coastline from Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to Ca Mau Province also saw northeast winds at 39-49kph, with gusts blowing at 50-74kph.

In offshore areas, winds became even stronger, reaching 50-74kph, with gusts up to 75-88kph and waves rising between 3 and 5.5m, causing extremely rough sea conditions.

While wind and wave intensity should decrease nearshore by midday on Monday, offshore conditions may remain turbulent.

The regional weather agency warned all vessels and offshore operations in Ho Chi Minh City waters and surrounding offshore areas of high risks due to strong winds and large waves.

Fishermen, cargo ships, and tourism operators must stay updated with official weather reports and avoid unnecessary travel at sea to ensure safety.
