The organizing committee of Nguyen Hue Flower Street, a staple of the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) in Ho Chi Minh City, has unveiled concept images for the street.

The Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) holiday begins late this month.

Construction and decorations for the flower street will begin at 7:00 am on January 9 and finish by 12:00 pm on January 27, using 109,000 baskets of different varieties of flowers.

A pair of snake sculptures and a female snake mascot are among its highlights.

Nguyen Hue Flower Street will open from 7:00 pm on January 27 to 9:00 pm on February 2.

According to the organizing committee, the flower street will be divided into three sections themed unity, transformation, and development.

This year’s Nguyen Hue Flower Street in Ho Chi Minh City will feature some 90 snake mascots with various shapes and emotions, mainly placed behind the welcome gate.

Snakes are often associated with a sense of unease, yet they possess flexibility.

To overcome this challenge, the design team has crafted snake sculptures as intricate and elegant works of art, well worth the anticipation ahead of Tet.

At the entrance to Nguyen Hue Flower Street, a pair of snake mascots -- a male and a female -- will take center stage.

The male is designed to measure 42 meters in length, while the female will be 25 meters long.

The snakes will coil gracefully into three loops, rising over six meters high.

Up to 70 percent of the materials for the two snake mascots will be eco-friendly.

Their heads and bellies will be blanketed with colored pressed cardboard, while their backs will be covered in reflective mica scales.

The welcome gate of the Nguyen Hue Flower Street in Ho Chi Minh City will have a male snake mascot and a female snake mascot.

There will be some 2,700 scales on the female snake mascot and nearly 3,600 scales on the male. The scales will be installed manually and attached with an LED lighting system.

Their eyes will be 10 centimeters in diameter.

The flower street will have some 90 snake mascots with various shapes and emotions and many of them will be placed behind the welcome gate.

There will be another female snake mascot in the traditional costume of southern women, including khan ran (traditional black-and-white checkered scarves) and non la (conical hats).

Featuring the shape of a copperhead with its head raised, the mascot which will be over 50 meters long and more than 10 meters high will be painted green.

Its head will be made of styrofoam, fine mesh, steel, and nets.

Its body will have nearly 3,000 scales made of painted styrofoam, winding into two circles with the larger circle's diameter being nearly nine meters.

This snake mascot will be made of light materials. Two-thirds of the snake's length will coil on the ground and the remaining one-third will stand upright as high as five meters.

The organizing committee will use a huge volume of flowers for the Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2025.

Launched in 2004, Nguyen Hue Flower Street has become a highly-anticipated cultural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City during Tet and will be in its 22nd edition this year.

Saigontourist Group coordinates with local departments and agencies to construct and decorate the flower street under the direction of the municipal People’s Committee.
