Authorities of Buon Ma Thuot City in Dak Lak Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands on Friday confirmed the temporary suspension of a teacher who allegedly used an electric wire to discipline students.
The suspension of B.T.X., a 5th-grade homeroom teacher at Ly Tu Trong Elementary School, allows for an investigation into her alleged misconduct, said Pham Tien Hung, vice-chairman of the city’s administration.
The city’s education and training sub-department and the school board were scheduled to convene later the same day to determine appropriate disciplinary action.
Authorities pledged to address any wrongdoing with appropriate accountability, Hung stated, adding that the school will also engage with parents to apologize for validated concerns and clarify any misinformation circulated on social media.
Nguyen Huu Luat, head of the education and training sub-department, confirmed that allegations of X. using a discarded electric wire, threatening students with a chalkboard eraser, and forcing students to prepare a crumpled sheet of paper and place it in their mouths if they spoke during class have been substantiated.
However, claims of forcing students to crawl into restrooms or stuffing erasers into their mouths are still under investigation.
The school has removed X. from her teaching and homeroom duties for the remainder of the school year.
She has also been asked to submit a formal report on the incident, while further investigations are underway to assess the full extent of her violations.
The case came to light after parents reported the teacher’s misconduct at a temporary learning site located at 2 An Duong Vuong Street, which is being used while the school's main campus undergoes construction.
