Ho Chi Minh City traffic police booked more than 39,800 drivers and motorcyclists for alcohol-related offenses and detected over 500 cases involving drug use while operating vehicles during the first quarter of the year, from December 15 to March 14.
The majority of the drunk-driving cases involved motorbikes, with 38,112 cases, followed by 1,669 car drivers and 33 individuals operating rudimentary vehicles.
Among the drug-related cases, 495 involved motorbikes and 10 involved cars.
According to the city’s traffic police division, specialized patrol teams are deployed based on real-time data, focusing on high-risk areas and time slots with frequent violations.
A police official noted that many offenders under the influence of alcohol or drugs tend to display aggressive or unstable behavior, making enforcement more difficult and hazardous for officers.
