Dozens of Su-30MK2 fighter jets, dubbed ‘king cobras’ in Vietnam, and various other aircraft have been conducting intensive rehearsal sessions in Bien Hoa City, southern Dong Nai Province, in preparation for the upcoming aerial performances celebrating the country's 50th Reunification Day (April 30) in Ho Chi Minh City.
These days, the skies over Bien Hoa and neighboring areas have been vibrant with training activities involving Su-30MK2 multirole fighters, Yak-130 light combat aircraft, and Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters.
These aircraft are scheduled to perform flight displays as part of the grand parade in Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of April 30, commemorating half a century since the country's reunification.
To ensure precision and excellence, pilots and aircraft from various air force units nationwide have converged at Bien Hoa Airbase since early March for rigorous rehearsals.
Lt. Col. Tran Thanh Luan, deputy commander of the 935th Regiment under the 370th Division, acknowledged the challenges posed by current weather conditions, according to news site Vietnamnet.
“Although the weather is not favorable at this time, with many cloudy skies, we have coordinated technical measures closely to ensure smooth training flights,” he stated.
The initial training phase focuses on acclimating pilots to local weather conditions and terrain. Subsequent sessions involve coordinated maneuvers in various formations, executed proficiently by seasoned pilots.
Each day, from early morning, technical crews meticulously inspect equipment, engines, cockpits, electrical systems, and control systems to ensure optimal flight safety.
Once preparations are complete, pilots conduct engine checks before taxiing and taking to the skies. Su-30MK2 and Yak-130 squadrons perform aerial maneuvers, assembling into formations of three or four aircraft.
The air resonates with the powerful roars of these ‘king cobra’ jets and Yak-130 light fighters as they execute complex techniques, including aerobatics, splits, and rotations.
In addition to jet fighters, more than ten Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters are also participating in the ongoing rehearsals.
These helicopters are slated to re-enact flag-towing performances, reminiscent of displays at the second Vietnam International Defense Expo in Hanoi in December 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory in the northern city of Dien Bien on May 7, 2024, according to news site Dan Tri.
