Vietnam, Qatar bolster cooperation in football development

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Qatar Football Association (QFA) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding on football development cooperation, prioritizing the nurturing of young talents.

VFF chairman Tran Quoc Tuan and QFA president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani discussed the two sides’ collaboration plans for the coming time on the occasion of the ongoing first conference of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Standing Committees in the 2023-27 tenure in Doha, Qatar.

Qatar has supported and created favorable conditions for Vietnamese national football teams to practice and compete in the Middle Eastern country over the past several years.

Most recently, Qatar invited the Vietnamese U22 men's football team to participate in the Doha Cup 2023 friendly tournament in March with the participation of many leading young football sides in Asia.

Vietnam’s U17 men’s football team will fly to Qatar for training and friendly matches in mid-May to prepare for the 2023 AFC U17 Asian Cup, set to take place between June 15 and July 2 in Thailand.

The QFA president promised to make conditions favorable for the Vietnamese U17 men’s football team during the training time in Qatar and organize a friendly match between the team and Qatar’s U17 football team.

In related news, the AFC would hold a draw for the AFC Asian Cup 2023, hosted by Qatar from January 12 to February 10, 2024, at 6:00 pm on Thursday.

VFF chairman Tuan expressed his belief that Qatar will successfully host the tournament following the success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Vietnamese and Qatari teams will reach their objectives at the continental competition.
