The 1-0 victory over Austria may not have completely satisfied international fans, but French supporters in Vietnam believe that their team had a good performance in their Euro 2024 opener.

In their opening match, France beat Austria 1-0 in the group stage of Euro 2024 early on Monday.

A tough match

Speaking to Tuoi Tre News, Eric Martin, living in Perpignan city of France, noted that it was a serious match for the Blues which ended with the modest victory.

They missed quite a few opportunities but overall, it bodes well for the future, he said.

Hugo Grisillon, a French expatriate living in Ho Chi Minh City, said that both teams had very solid performances.

For the French team, in particular, the defense and midfield played excellently, with N'golo Kanté returning in top form.

However, Grisillon believed the team still needs to make adjustments in their attack and find a better formula.

"You know, the team always needs time to find its best tactics. They get stronger as they play more,” Grisillon confidently said.

Sharing the same view, Jules Heurtault, also in Ho Chi Minh City, believed that in the opening match, France faced a very tactical and solid Austrian team.

According to Heurtault, France won thanks to their characteristic quick attacks, aided by their fast players.

The highlight of the match was a coordinated move by forward Kylian Mbappe that caused the opposing defender to score an own goal.

Another key moment was goalkeeper Mike Maignan's excellent saves.

Overall, the French team did not play perfectly and lacked precision. But the players demonstrated a strong mentality.

This gives fans optimism that France will improve in the upcoming matches, he added.

Euro 2024 fever in France

According to Hugo Grisillon, Euro 2024 is attracting a lot of attention in France.

The media is buzzing with coverage, and football fans are eagerly anticipating the tournament, especially after France's recent performances, such as reaching the Euro 2016 final, winning the 2018 World Cup, the 2021 Nations League, and finishing as runners-up in the 2022 World Cup.

Fans are excited to see how France will perform. Generally, they are optimistic about the team's chances of advancing farther into the tournament.

France boast many superstars, Grisillon said, adding that he highly praises Antoine Griezmann for his vision, creativity, and incredible game-reading ability.

Additionally, Kylian Mbappe cannot be overlooked, whom Grisillon regards as having already become a French football legend at just 25 years old.

Regarding expectations, French fans want their team to go far but are not overly pressured.

Instead, they focus on the emotions of the journey towards the championship.

"I feel grateful to the French team, the players, and head coach Didier Deschamps, for they have brought us many emotions over the years with their great performances. I think all French people have faith and affection for the team,” Grisillon shared.
