The final match of the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup will be a reunion for Vietnam and Thailand, like in the 2008 edition, Vietnamese ace striker Le Cong Vinh told Thai media after the team’s first practice session in the event’s co-host nation on Tuesday. The Vietnam squad arrived in Thailand yesterday, two days earlier than expected, and four days before their opening match against Myanmar at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The team was surrounded by local media after their first practice on the same day, where Cong Vinh attracted the most questions. The 27-year-old striker equalized the 2008 AFF Cup final in Hanoi at 1 – 1, leading his team to a 3 – 2 win on aggregate and snatching the trophy from the Thai holders. “Thailand will try their best at the 2012 AFF Cup, as they failed in 2008 and 2010,” the Vietnamese striker told reporters. “Hence, its Group A rivals will try their best to win a ticket to the semifinal,” he added. Thailand will play against Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines in Group A, while the co-host Malaysia -- the defending champions, will be challenged by Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos in the tournament that runs from November 24 to December 22. Vinh said he doesn’t know much about the current Thai team, but believes that both Thailand and Vietnam will repeat history to be present at the finale. Vietnamese fans can watch the tournament via national channel VTV, and in HD quality via the VTC HD channel of digital TV provider VTC.
