Tuoi Tre to host online talk with Ljungberg today

Tuesday, June 04, 2013, 09:35 GMT+7

Karl Fredrik "Freddie" Ljungberg, the former Swedish and Arsenal winger, will talk online with Tuoi Tre readers today, June 4, during a program that will be covered on tuoitre.vn, tuoitrenews.vn, and broadcast live on tv.tuoitre.vn.

The show will start at 10:30am at Tuoi Tre’s headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City.

The organizer has so far received more than 1,000 questions from its readers, who are fans of the 36-year-old footballer.

Ten readers with the best questions will be given a ticket to the Vietnam – Arsenal exhibition march in Hanoi on July 17.

Ljungberg was signed by Arsenal in 1998 for £3 million, which at the time was the highest-ever transfer fee for a Swedish player.

He played for the club from 1998 to 2007, with other renowned players including Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, and Patrick Vieira, who formed what is seen as the best team manager Arsene Wenger has ever had at his command during his 16 years at Arsenal.

During his nine years at the Premier League club, Ljungberg achieved two EPL championships and three FA trophies.

He also played in the 2005 – 2006 Champions League final between Arsenal and Barcelona in Paris, where his club suffered a 1 – 2 defeat.

Ljungberg has also played for West Ham, Seattle Sounders FC, and Chicago Fire, among others. He won 75 caps for Sweden’s national squad in ten years, scoring 14 goals before announcing his retirement in 2012, with his last international tournament being the UEFA Euro 2008.

‘I’m surprised by Vietnamese fans’

The former football star arrived at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat airport on Monday, kicking off his trip as the Arsenal Ambassador to promote the match between the club and the country’s national team next month.

Ljungberg was immediately surrounded by hundreds of local football fans, who welcomed him with cheers, flowers and banners that read “Arsenal in my heart”, “I love Ljungberg”, or “Welcome Ljungberg to Vietnam”.

Others tried to ask for his signature, or to take a photo with him.

“I’m really surprised by the love the Vietnamese fans dedicated to me,” Ljungberg told Tuoi Tre.

Arsenal is the first Premier League club to visit Vietnam, and with this huge love from the fans, other clubs may also come in the future, he said.

“I think the match between Vietnam and Arsenal on July 17 will be very exciting as many Arsenal fans will come to show their love with the club,” he added.
