Hanoi FC footballer Nguyen Van Quyet was named the Best Player of the 2020 V-League 1, Vietnam’s top-flight professional football tournament, at the V-League Awards 2020 on Friday evening.

The 29-year-old forward and skipper contributed significantly to the capital team’s stunning double this season, including their National Cup trophy and the Vietnamese National Football Super Cup, despite failing to secure their V-League 1 crown.

Quyet appeared in all 20 games Hanoi FC played during the 2020 V-League, scoring the best overall on-field statistics, according to news site VnExpress.

Sports performance analysis company InStat gave Quyet 248 points, the highest among V-League players in the 2020 season, VnExpress reported.

Quyet’s Hanoi FC teammate, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, was named the Best Young Player.

At the awards ceremony, coach Truong Viet Hoang of Viettel FC, the V-League 1 new champions, was honored as the Best Manager of the tournament.

The Golden Whistle award for the best referee of the season was presented to Hoang Ngoc Ha.

Meanwhile, Nam Dinh FC’s Thien Truong Stadium was recognized as that having the largest audience, with up to 20,000 spectators during a game.

Viettel FC won this year’s V-League 1 title, with last season’s champions Hanoi FC being the runners-up.

The new season is set to start on January 16, 2021.
