Vietnamese boxer Ha Thi Linh trounced Finnish rival Vilma Viitanen 4-1 in women’s 60kg at the 2024 Olympics Second World Qualification Tournament held in Thailand on Sunday to secure a spot to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer.
Even when confronted with a formidable opponent like Vilma Viitannen, who ranks eighth globally in the women’s 57kg weight class, Linh seized control in the first round and sustained her dominance in the subsequent two rounds.
Despite Viitannen’s persistent attempts to stage a comeback, Linh ultimately emerged victorious 4-1 with scores of 30-27, 29-28, 28-29, 29-28, and 29-28.
This triumph secured Linh a direct berth in the women’s 60kg weight category of the 2024 Olympics boxing.
It also marks the second entry for Vietnamese boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, following boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh’s qualification in the women’s 54kg weight class.

In recognition of Linh’s outstanding performance, the Vietnam Boxing Federation decided to reward her with VND50 million (US$1,968) and $700 in cash.
Given Linh’s qualification, Vietnam now boasts a total of 11 athletes set to compete at the Paris Games, scheduled for July 26 to August 11, leaving the country just one short of its target of securing 12 Olympic spots this summer.
The 10 other Vietnamese athletes who have qualified for Paris are swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, cyclist Nguyen Thi That, markswomen Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, and badminton players Le Duc Phat, and Nguyen Thuy Linh.
Additionally, swimmer Vo Thi My Tien awaits official confirmation of her eligibility from the World Aquatics, the international federation administering competitions in water sports.
