Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club received large bonuses after an incredible comeback to beat Abu Dhabi from the United Arab Emirates in the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 AFC Women's Champions League on Saturday evening at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

After trailing 3-0 to Abu Dhabi in the first half, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club made an impressive turnaround to win 5-4, becoming the first team from Vietnam and Southeast Asia to secure a spot in the semifinals of the continental competition.

The victory is even more remarkable given that their opponents had 12 foreign players to choose from, with six foreign players starting in the match, as per the Asian Football Confederation's regulations.

In contrast, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club had only two foreign players from the U.S. and two overseas Vietnamese players.

Thus, the triumph over Abu Dhabi is even more significant.

Immediately after the match, the Vietnam Football Federation announced a reward of VND500 million (US$19,539) to motivate coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and her players.

The Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation also awarded the team VND200 million ($7,816).

The club also received a $120,000 prize from the AFC for making it to the semifinals.

If they advance to the final, they will earn $1 million as champions or $500,000 as runners-up.

Earlier, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club had already secured a total of $220,000 from the AFC for reaching the quarterfinals.
