A spring flower festival, along with a flower street, has been scheduled to kick off in Ho Chi Minh City in late January 2022 to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday with the theme ‘Homeland Spring with Warm Love,’ in compliance with required epidemic prevention measures.

The annual Spring Flower Festival will last for 11 days, from January 27 to February 6, 2022, in Tao Dan Park in District 1 to welcome Tet, with Lunar New Year’s Eve falling on January 31, the Vietnam News Agency quoted a plan approved by the city’s administration.

Pursuant to the plan, which was prepared by Ho Chi Minh City Greenery Parks Company and the Department of Construction, the festival will offer free admission to visitors. 

Festival goers will have a chance to contemplate more than 3,000 diverse and attractive ornamental plants and flowers, ornamental fish, bonsai, rockery and miniature landscapes.

They will also enjoy Tet traditional cultural activities, including folk theater art performances, folk games, fruit tray displays, floral arrangements, traditional martial arts, lion and dragon dances, circus shows, magic, calligraphy, and gastronomy.

Along with the Spring Flower Festival, the city will also organize Tet flower markets at six locations, including three at September 23 Park in District 1, Le Van Tam Park in District 1, and Gia Dinh Park in Phu Nhuan District.

Three other places are in Thu Duc City, District 8-based Binh Dien wholesale market, and District 7’s Phu My Hung area.

State-run Saigontourist will coordinate the annual Nguyen Hue Flower Street, lasting from January 29 to February 4, on Nguyen Hue Street in District 1 in parallel to the festival.

During the period, all vehicles will be suspended from Nguyen Hue Street and all street sections that lead to the event’s area. 

These cultural events have been in the pipeline as Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in particular have eased strict COVID-19 restrictions since early October to reopen the economy in the strategy of living safely with the coronavirus, including accelerated immunization and compliance with epidemic prevention rules.

Local authorities have requested the events’ organizers to ensure all service staff and visitors take coronavirus prevention measures like face mask donning, body temperature measurement, hand disinfection, and health declaration.

As of Sunday, the southern city of nine million people had administered over 7.96 million first jabs and some 6.92 million second shots to its adult population, alongside more than 1.34 million doses to children aged 12 to 17 years old, the Department of Health reported.

Since the pandemic hit the country in early 2020, the city has documented 495,318 COVID-19 cases and 19,094 deaths, the Ministry of Health’s data shows.

Nationwide, a total of 1,540,478 patients have been recorded, including 1,107,962 recoveries and 29,566 fatalities.
