The Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations (DAFO) and the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association, in collaboration with Thuan Nhi Co. Ltd., held a press conference on Friday to unveil details of the upcoming German Beer Festival and cultural culinary exchange event.
This celebration is meant to mark 49 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (September 23, 1975 – September 23, 2024) and 13 years of the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership, established in October 2011.
Germany, the largest economy in the European Union, shares a robust trade relationship with Vietnam, with bilateral trade surpassing US$11 billion annually.
The festival is particularly significant as Da Nang, the capital of central Vietnam, continues to strengthen its ties with Germany across various sectors.
In May, Da Nang and the German state of Thuringia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in human resource development, trade, science, and cultural exchange.
Currently, Da Nang’s trade with Germany nears $50 million, and the Vietnamese city has 11 active German investment projects worth a total of $10.3 million.
The German Beer Festival, first launched in 2019, was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year marks its return on a larger scale, promising to be a key highlight on the city's cultural calendar.

The event is slated to take place on September 27 and 28 at 83-85-87 Tran Phu Street, Hai Chau District from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities celebrating Germany’s cultural heritage, including international music performances, a traditional German costume contest, and competitions like ‘Best German Beer Drinker’ and ‘Most Beer Glasses Carried.’
The event will also feature a lucky draw with valuable prizes and live electronic dance music (EDM) performances by popular local and international artists.
“The festival provides a platform for Vietnamese who have lived, studied, and worked in Germany to reconnect and share their experiences with the German community in Da Nang, fostering future collaborations,” said Nguyen Ngoc Binh, chairman of DAFO.
He added that the event also aims to boost tourism, positioning Da Nang as a destination for cultural events, festivals, and hospitality.
This fest not only strengthens the bond between Vietnam and Germany but also paves the way for next year’s 50th-anniversary commemorations of their diplomatic ties.
In 2025, Da Nang plans to host even grander celebrations, with an expanded beer festival, along with additional cultural exchange events in collaboration with German diplomatic agencies in Vietnam.
