The World Tourism Organization has recognized the nearly-400-year-old Tra Que Vegetable Village in Hoi An, a tourist city in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, as the world’s best tourism village, making it the second village in the country to secure the title, the provincial administration reported.
Tra Que Village attracts 20,000-30,000 visitors per year.
The title awarding ceremony is set to take place in Hoi An in mid-December.
Tra Que Village is surrounded by the Co Co River and paddy fields where vegetable growers mainly use manual farming methods and rarely utilize chemical fertilizers.

Herbs there are especially more aromatic than those in other places.
Vegetable farms total some 40 hectares in Tra Que Village and local farmers supply 40 different types of vegetables to supermarkets, restaurants, and hotels in Hoi An as well as neighboring Da Nang City.
Before 2020, tours to Tra Que Village were operated by local enterprises, according to the Center for Culture, Sports, Radio and Television of Hoi An City.

Since 2020, non-business entities in Hoi An have assumed the exploitation of tourism activities in the village.
Tra Que villagers have taken advantage of the alluvial soil and natural organic fertilizer from moss sourced from the Co Co River to farm vegetables, believing their produce grows crispier and more fragrant.
Visitors to the village can experience planting greens and enjoying drinks and cakes made from the vegetables.

As the village was honored as the best tourism village in the world, the administration in Hoi An hopes to have more motivation to turn the city into a cultural, ecological, and environmental destination.
This is a reward for the efforts of both local residents and authorities to maintain the peaceful, rustic, and friendly beauty of Hoi An.
