In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification, helicopters and fighter jets thundered across the skies above Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday morning, drawing crowds to key landmarks as military units rehearsed for the upcoming national celebration.

The training flight began at 9:15 am, with formations of three to four helicopters flying in unison over the Reunification Palace in District 1.

Shortly after, Yak-130 light combat aircraft and Su-30MK2 fighter jets roared overhead, with their engines echoing through the city.

The powerful sound of the jets captivated onlookers, many of whom gathered near the palace to witness the spectacle.

“I’m very proud,” said Hung, a local resident who had followed news of the upcoming military parades. 

“I can feel the heroic spirit of our nation.”

Children and adults alike looked skyward, some cheering and filming as the aircraft swept by in tight formation. 

The event stirred strong feelings of patriotism and anticipation for the full-scale celebration scheduled for April 30.

In recent days, similar rehearsals have taken place over Bien Hoa City in neighboring Dong Nai Province, where the sounds of helicopters and fighter jets have filled the skies, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The flight rehearsals are part of a grand military parade that will be held in Ho Chi Minh City to mark 50 years since Vietnam’s reunification -- a milestone event reflecting national pride, unity, and resilience.
