Some 5,000 women donning two of Vietnam’s most well-known traditional outfits – ao dai and ao ba ba –will join a parade scheduled during a traditional costume festival in Can Tho City on October 13 and 14.

The festival, themed ‘Southern Vietnam’s Grace,’ will be held in Hau River Park along the bank of the river in Cai Khe Ward under Ninh Kieu District, the Can Tho City Women's Union said on Wednesday.

In addition to ao dai and ao ba ba, the women who take part in the festival’s parade will wear traditional hats, known as a non la, and Vietnamese scarves. They will also carry Vietnamese flags.

The event is being held to mark the 15th anniversary of Can Tho becoming a centrally-managed city, as well as to celebrate the Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20).

A series of art performances and cultural events, as well as a market with 15 booths selling local dishes, specialties and unique products, will also take place during the festival.
