-- Inspectors from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, in coordination with traffic police, will tighten inspection and impose stern punishment upon passenger bus operators that provide poor services during the holiday weekend celebrating National Day (September 2).

-- A man and a woman were caught carrying one kilogram of illegal drugs when traveling on a train en route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday morning, a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper said on Sunday.

-- A man and his daughter in the north-central province of Ha Tinh drowned in a local reservoir as he was teaching the little girl how to swim.

-- A votive offering shop in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, caught fire on Sunday evening, causing a woman and her four-month-old child to be trapped inside. The baby was later taken to a children’s hospital for emergency treatment while the mother also escaped death.

-- Police in Hanoi affirmed on Sunday that they were investigating a case in which a fight broke out between 50 people from two gangs at a local beer bar on Saturday night.
