Carmaker VinFast will sponsor 393 cars for conferences of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events hosted by Vietnam in 2020.
The official sponsorship was announced following a deal signed between VinFast and the National ASEAN 2020 Committee in Hanoi on Wednesday morning.
Vietnam officially assumed the chairmanship of ASEAN after the 35th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.
As the rotating chair of ASEAN in 2020, Vietnam will host the ASEAN Summits and related meetings throughout the year.
VinFast has committed itself to gradually handing over 393 cars to a logistics subcommittee under the National ASEAN 2020 Committee for these events from now until September 2020.
“It’s our honor to chauffeur international guests using made-in-Vietnam cars,” said Mai Tien Dung, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office and deputy head of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, at the signing ceremony.
Founded in 2017, VinFast is the automotive arm of multi-sector conglomerate Vingroup.
The firm delivered its first batch of made-in-Vietnam cars to customers in late June.
In August, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad test-drove a model of VinFast in Hanoi during a three-day official visit to Vietnam.
ASEAN is a political and economic organization whose members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
