Hordes of people queued to snatch discounted items at shopping malls and stores in Ho Chi Minh City on Black Friday, an indication of how much the yearly shopping bonanza originating in the United States has gained traction in Vietnam.
Brick-and-mortar shops in Vietnam started observing Black Friday arguably in 2013.
This year’s Black Friday falls on November 29, attracting hundreds of people ready for the shopping spree.
In Ho Chi Minh City, long lines of people were already forming outside Vincom Center on Dong Khoi Street in District 1 right from the early morning.
“I took leave from my office this morning to ‘hunt for’ my favorite items,” Nguyen Tran Ngoc Linh, a woman residing in Binh Thanh District, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
Several brands offered price cuts of up to 50 percent, resulting in long queues of patiently-waiting shoppers.
