Vietnamese carriers have devised plans to prepare for the resumption of more domestic routes, as well as the launching of new international air routes and those within the country.
Vietnam Airlines announced on Wednesday the resumption of seven routes, including six to Phu Quoc Island City off southern Kien Giang Province.
Those six routes connect Phu Quoc with Da Nang City, Nghe An Province, Hai Phong City, Can Tho City, Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province, and Thanh Hoa Province and will start operating on March 27 with a frequency of seven flights a week.
The remaining route in the flag carrier’s plan links Da Nang with Vinh City in Nghe An Province and will welcome passengers starting June 1 with a frequency of three flights a week.
A source revealed that budget carrier Vietjet Air is also about to put more than ten domestic routes into operation in the next few months, when the summer holiday season begins.
Regarding international routes, Vietjet Thailand, a member of Vietjet Air, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to carry out marketing and promotional activities in order to promote and attract tourists to Thailand, especially those from Vietnam and Cambodia.
Bamboo Airways, which plans to expand its international flight network to 40 routes this year, has also opened ticket sales for a number of regular direct commercial flights to Europe, including those from Hanoi to Frankfurt and from Hanoi to London, departing from March 22.
The initial frequency planned for those routes is two round trips per week per route and will increase in accordance with market demand and permission from the authorities.
Representatives of airlines assessed that Vietnam’s removal of limitations on the frequency of regular international routes to and from all markets from mid-February has created favorable conditions for the carriers to restore and expand their operations in preparation for the official reopening of international tourism on March 15.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has forecast that the country will welcome 42-43 million air passengers this year.
In addition to focusing on connecting international destinations with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the CAAV has received many requests to resume flights from some European countries to central Vietnamese provinces and cities.
It is expected that the number of international visitors to and from Vietnam will soar in the coming period as the country’s tourism strives to return to pre-pandemic levels.
