More than 160 international enterprises from 18 countries and territories and 30 international press agencies are expected to attend the 16th Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Expo (ITE HCMC 2022) in the southern metropolis next month, the municipal Department of Tourism announced on Tuesday.

Domestic and foreign firms have registered more than 260 stalls at the event, which is scheduled to be held at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7 from September 8 to 10.

Bringing together over 1,500 delegates from management agencies, travel companies, airlines, and operators of accommodation and entertainment facilities in Vietnam and abroad, it aims to create favorable conditions for Vietnam’s tourism community to grow and connect with their foreign peers.

The ITE HCMC is the only international travel event in Vietnam to launch an international buyer program and invite 160 partners from 18 countries and territories housing key and potential inbound markets for Vietnam, including the U.S., Germany, Poland, South Korea, India, and Malaysia.

The director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa said the market for international visitors to Vietnam has seen very positive growth signals this year.

She highlighted a high-level conference on tourism development policy and the MICE Vietnam forum as noteworthy events within the framework of the expo.

During the three-day expo, visitors will also be treated to a hands-on experience of local cultures and a festival for the public, Hoa added.

The organizers expect the expo will result in more than 6,000 business-to-business trade appointments between buyers and exhibitors and attract upwards of 22,000 visitors.

Vietnam welcomed nearly one million foreign tourists in the first seven months of this year, with the figure for Ho Chi Minh City hitting 765,585, double that of 2021, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
