Choosing Vietnam to base its operations, the Vietnam Technology Advice and Solutions from Korea Center (VITASK) has become a bridge between Vietnamese industrial enterprises and South Korean groups.

Accompanying the ‘Vocation Story in the 4.0 Era’ contest held by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Kim Joo Hyung, director of the Hanoi office of the Asian Culture Center, one of the five agencies under the VITASK, said through the competition, the VITASK expects to give more practical support to Vietnamese enterprises.

Errors in products abundant

According to Kim, the VITASK was founded in Vietnam within the framework of a project to support the industry and trade development cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea.

The project is aimed at contributing to sustainable development and boosting production in Vietnam by supporting exchanges between Vietnamese and South Korean enterprises; supporting analysis of experiments and training of consultants; and improving the technical competence to produce accessories based on Vietnamese enterprises’ demand.

Kim judged that Vietnam’s automobile sector has multiple development opportunities as global firms have flocked to invest in Southeast Asia over the past few years.

If Vietnam can take advantage of these opportunities, it can develop supporting industries to become a global manufacturing hub.

In such a context, the VITASK’s operations help connect and support the cooperation of Vietnamese and South Korean enterprises.

The center will give intensive technical instructions for local enterprises to get involved in global value chains and meet the requirements of leading South Korean companies.

As an expert, Kim said developed countries need to make investments to improve product quality in a bid to meet leading groups’ standards.

In general, Vietnamese enterprises have not placed much importance on their products.

Kim suggested the government lend more support to encourage enterprises to innovate technologies and invest further in products’ details, thereby increasing their productivity and product quality.

Some local enterprises in Vietnam, despite being small, are confident about their products.

However, it is not enough when products are highly evaluated by their producers. They must meet global standards. Then, South Korean enterprises will cooperate with Vietnamese partners as Vietnam’s preferential policies are attractive, Kim said.

Minimizing faulty products

“The VITASK is focusing on giving technical support and has sent South Korean experts to Vietnamese factories to learn about and identify the problems of each enterprise and their products. They will later propose solutions to improve these firms’ production," Kim said.

“Some enterprises, after obtaining the VITASK’s support and consultancy, have reduced the proportion of their defective products from 60 to zero percent."

The VITASK has also trained engineers and university students so that they can work for local factories in the future.

“Furthermore, we give a helping hand to connect enterprises of the two countries via the Asia Culture Center, an exchange and cooperation network in Asia,” Kim said.

Regarding the reasons for choosing Vietnam as its operation base in Southeast Asia, Kim said Vietnam’s potential and infrastructure are considered the best in the region.

The VITASK also surveyed Thailand and Indonesia and found that Vietnam’s personnel training competence is great and it is capable of training many skilled engineers.

Therefore, the VITASK decided to choose Vietnam as its operation place.

Kim said that Vietnam’s policy is open, which is favorable but the government should be more clear-headed in proposing cooperation mechanisms with other countries.

In addition, the connectivity between the government and the business community has not been really strong. Therefore, the government should issue more practical policies for enterprises, especially small and medium ones.

Commenting on the ‘Vocation Story in the 4.0 Era’ contest held by Tuoi Tre, Kim said such contests are meaningful to bring enterprises together.

“I hope similar contests will be held more frequently and professionally, thereby improving their prestige. Honored enterprises will be well known for being proactive in learning about and connecting with others,” Kim said.
