Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet on Saturday rolled out its new direct air route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Brisbane City in Australia’s Queensland, making it the first local airline to offer direct service linking Vietnam with the state.
The budget carrier now runs two round-trip flights per week between Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane on Mondays and Fridays, along with unlimited promotions and 'green cuisine' with fresh and hot meals.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Michael Hickey, chief operating officer at Vietjet, said the launch of the new direct air route will help facilitate travel between the two cities as well as the two nations.
Previously, Vietjet held a ceremony on June 4 in Hanoi to announce the new air route, with the participation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese.
Brisbane, where the 2032 Summer Olympics will be held, is the third-largest city in Australia and is the bustling capital city in Queensland State.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is a metropolis in southern Vietnam, which can be easily reached by different transport means from various destinations at home and overseas.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Brisbane direct route is expected to promote tourism and bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia, expanding Vietjet’s flight network on the eastern coast of Australia, which is the most populated area in Australia, with eight weekly round-trip flights to and from Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
