More than 72,000 Vietnamese workers went abroad for employment in the first half of 2023, representing a 1.5-fold rise compared to the same period in 2022, according to Nguyen Gia Liem, head of the Department of Overseas Labor under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The figure is around 65.5 percent of Vietnam’s target to send 110,000 workers overseas this year, Liem highlighted during a recent interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
In contrast to 2022, which saw only 46,500 Vietnamese people working abroad during the same period, this year’s number surged by 1.55 times.
The primary destinations for Vietnamese workers are Japan, with over 34,500 individuals, Taiwan, with approximately 31,500, and South Korea, with more than 1,600.
Additionally, other markets like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar also provide opportunities for Vietnamese workers.
Notably, South Korea has been recruiting more shipbuilding workers since June last year.
Recently, the country has also eased regulations, accelerated the hiring process, and offered more job opportunities in the agricultural and fishery sectors.
On the other hand, Japan keeps focusing on manufacturing, industrial production, and for a smaller scale, construction, agriculture, forestry, and fishery.
Meanwhile, countries in the Middle East are in need of more workers in the construction, oil and gas, mechanical, shipbuilding, and manufacturing industries.
Europe is also increasing its hiring of Vietnamese workers.
However, European countries have stricter requirements, insisting on skilled and qualified workers.
