The Tien Lang District People’s Committee in Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam imposed a fine of VND15 million (US$632) on Hung Dao Clean Water Development JSC for vending water that fell short of quality standards, an official said on Tuesday.

The imposition of the penalty was enforced following the submission of a petition by households in Quyet Tien Commune to the People’s Committee.

The local residents raised concerns over the apparently inadequate quality assurance of daily-use water supplied by the Khoi Nghia water plant, operated by Hung Dao Clean Water Development JSC.

Samples of treated water from the Khoi Nghia water plant, along with two water samples obtained from households in Quyet Tien Commune, were collected by district officials and submitted to the Center of Marine Environmental Monitoring and Analysis under the Navy High Command for assessment in accordance with the clean water standards outlined by the Ministry of Health.

The test outcomes indicated that the levels of residual chlorine and turbidity in all three samples failed to meet the required standards.

Consequently, the Tien Lang District People’s Committee issued a decision to levy an administrative fine of VND15 million on Hung Dao Clean Water Development JSC.

During a meeting with Tien Lang District People’s Committee leaders, representatives from the company pledged to coordinate the replacement of damaged, fractured, and stagnant water pipes.

Simultaneously, they will install an additional 45kW turbocharger in conjunction with the existing 37kW turbocharger to augment waterline pressure.

Additionally, measures involving cleaning the input water intake area, storage tanks, and filter tanks to rectify the existing subpar water quality will be carried out this month.
