The Ministry of Transport issued a directive on Thursday requiring the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) and airlines to strengthen the strict control of ticket prices and to explore solutions for reducing airfares.

The ministry said that it had received a report on the results of an inspection into ticket sales of Vietnamese airlines from the aviation authority.

To tighten control over air ticket prices and meet the soaring travel demand of residents during the peak summer season, the ministry asked the CAAV to boost scrutiny over ticket sales, declarations, and pricing practices at local airlines to promptly detect violations.

The aviation authority was tasked with working with Vietnamese airlines to come up with solutions to increase flights on domestic routes, while creating favorable conditions for the air carriers to add planes.

Moreover, the CAAV was urged to do a study on a reduction in domestic air ticket prices while balancing the benefits of the state, airlines, and passengers.

The ministry also called on relevant units to step up efforts to launch combo packages to diversify tourism products and services, and lower costs at the same time.

The Transport Development and Strategy Institute was assigned to join hands with relevant agencies to build a database covering information about air travel demands, and domestic and international airfares to analyze, assess, and predict the air transport outlook in a bid to enhance transport capacity and cut transport costs.

Furthermore, the ministry ordered local airlines to comply with regulations on pricing and declarations, and publicize detailed information about ticket prices, fees, as well as ticket selling programs.

The airlines were encouraged to map out a plan to grow their fleet of aircraft, arrange more night-time flights, and cooperate with local authorities and travel firms to introduce tourism products and tourist attractions.
