Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam delivered a speech at the United Nations Summit for the Future in the U.S. on Sunday, in which he conveyed a message of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect for the sake of the world and future generations.

The two-day summit kicked off at the headquarters of the UN in New York with a theme of ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future,’ gathering a global spectrum of high-ranking leaders diplomatically and regionally.

In his remarks, General Secretary and State President Lam said that human intelligence has changed the world — but it also causes many difficulties and challenges, such as climate change, epidemics, resource depletion, and the production of weapons of mass destruction.

Stressing that the choices people make today will shape their future, Lam said the world’s sustainable development goal and the well-being of humanity must be placed at the center of all efforts and remain the ultimate objective of every country.

Scientific and technological achievements must serve social progress, focus on humanity, liberate individuals, promote comprehensive human development, and continually improve living standards, for the interests and happiness of society and future generations.

According to the top Vietnamese leader, scientific and technological advancements must also focus on economic development, building a fair and civilized society, improving people's quality of life, and eliminating poverty.

These achievements should foster cooperation and must not be used as tools of aggression or to undermine the aspirations of nations for peace, development, fairness, and justice.

For the goal of peace, stability, sustainable development, and equality among nations and peoples worldwide, countries should boost investment in areas such as medicine, education and training, digital transformation, green transformation, and solutions for serving the masses, while restraining investment in the research and production of weapons of mass destruction.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Vietnamese leader called upon countries to strengthen solidarity, expand cooperation, and enhance mutual respect, while complying with international law and the UN Charter.

He underlined that every country, especially large, needs to act responsibly and share common achievements in scientific and technological research for mutual development.

Vietnam supports the UN and regional organizations, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to take the lead in promoting cooperation and coordinating actions to respond to global challenges and make the best use of opportunities from scientific and technological advances, Lam said.

The Party and state leader pledged that Vietnam will continue making effective contributions to joint efforts to build a peaceful world with equal development for a prosperous and happy life of humanity.

He affirmed that Vietnam welcomes the work of the summit, including a Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations., which outline ambitious actions and objectives in all cooperation areas of the UN.
