Vietnam wins two gold medals at Int’l Physics Olympiad

Vietnamese students won two gold medals at the 44th International Physics Olympiad that concluded Monday in Denmark, the Ministry of Education and Training said the same day.

The two medalists are Bui Quang Tu, a 12th grader at Hanoi – Amsterdam Specialized High School, based in Hanoi, and Ngo Phi Long, a 12th grader at Son La Specialized High School, located in the northern province of Son La.

Vietnam also won three other medals, with a silver going to My Duy Hoang Long, enrolled at Lam Son Specialized High School, located in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

Hoang Long’s schoolmate Le Duy Anh bagged a bronze and Tran Thi Thu Huong, a student at Le Hong Phong Specialized High School, situated in the northern province of Nam Dinh, grabbed the other bronze.

In early May, Quang Tu and Phi Long also struck gold at the 14th Asian Physics Olympiad in Indonesia, where Vietnamese students garnered two silvers and one bronze as well.

Earlier in 2012, Long won another gold medal at the 43th International Physics Olympiad, organized in Estonia. Vietnam secured four other medals, including one gold, one silver and two bronzes in this competition.

In another development, Vietnamese participants were presented with two silver medals and two bronzes at the 25th International Olympiad in Informatics, which closed Sunday in Australia.

The medal winners come from Tran Phu Specialized High School, located in the northern city of Hai Phong, Lam Son Specialized High School, and another specialized high school under the Hanoi University of Science.
