Police in Tra Vinh Province, located in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region, said on Tuesday that officers are clarifying the denunciation of sexual abuse by a group of alumnae against a literature teacher of a high school in Tra Vinh City.
The local police received a total of four written denunciations from four alumnae of Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted, who stated that a literature of the school had engaged in indecent, sexually abusive behaviors toward them.
The officers did not elaborate on where and when the sexually abusive behaviors happened as per the alumnae's account.
They worked with two of the accusers on the denunciation, while being scheduled to meet another, who is living in Ho Chi Minh City, later.
The officers have yet to arrange a working session with the remaining alumna, who has been infected with COVID-19.
They will also invite the teacher in question, who has worked at Nguyen Thien Thanh High School for the Gifted for 20 years, to the police headquarters to clarify the denunciations.
At his request, the teacher has been suspended from providing in-person lessons at classrooms and assigned other tasks outside of his teaching expertise in the meantime, a leader of the school said on Tuesday.
The school also reported the case to the provincial Department of Education and Training after information related to it circulated online on February 25.
