The Australian National University will enroll Vietnamese students based on their grade-12 academic records from 2024 instead of the students’ scores in the high school graduation exam.

The Vietnamese applicants will have to submit an IELTS score as well.

The Australian National University, which is the best university in Australia in 2023 according to the QS World University Rankings, has instructed the conversion of scores in students’ academic records under the Vietnamese curriculum to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) equivalents.

Students can also compete for the Chancellor’s International Scholarship worth 50 percent of the tuition fees at the Australian National University if they have a grade-12 point average of at least 9.4 out of 10.

The new policy will be applicable to applications in February 2024.

The Australian National University has made a list of 92 high schools for gifted students and high-ranking high schools in Vietnam whose students are entitled to the university’s new policy.

These 92 high schools have strict enrollment processes and high teaching and testing quality, so their students’ academic records are reliable, said Andy Pham, senior regional manager in charge of the Mekong Delta at the Australian National University.

“Surveys conducted over the past few years showed that academic records of students from these schools were equivalent to their results in high school graduation exams,” Pham added.

The new enrollment method will help eligible Vietnamese students enter the university in July, instead of February of the next year, as they do not have to wait for their results in the high school graduation exam, according to Pham.

In addition to the academic records, Vietnamese students have to get an overall IELTS score of at least 6.5 each.

The Australian National University will offer 200 scholarships valued at 25-50 percent of the tuition fees to international applicants with outstanding academic results.
