Professor's family donates nearly $3mn for education in north-central Vietnam

Professor Le Viet Ly's scholarship fund, established by his family in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, has contributed over VND75 billion (US$3 million) to the development of schools, teaching equipment, and scholarships over 17 years.

Recently, the Thanh Hoa association for promoting education, in coordination with the provincial Department of Education and Training, awarded scholarships to students and honored teachers for their achievements.

Dau Thanh Tung, vice-chairman of the Thanh Hoa administration, expressed gratitude for the family's generosity and support for local education.

Professor Ly’s scholarship fund has supported over 7,000 students with grants ranging from VND2 million ($79) to VND3 million ($118) and nearly 500 students with awards worth VND10-15 million ($394-590) each.

In 2024 alone, the fund has allocated over VND2 billion ($79,000) to provide scholarships for 449 students and 50 teachers and educational managers, according to the Thanh Hoa association for promoting education.
