Hanoi proposes confiscating CD with obscene content

The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently proposed the retrieval of a CD titled “Thang Mo 1- Cai nuong 8X” by local composer Ngoc Dai for its slanderous content and obscene lyrics.

According to artist Quoc Chiem, the department’s vice head, the department has sent documents calling for the recall of the CD shortly after the Performing Arts Office reached its conclusion on May 10 that the CD contains parts that blacken the reputation of the government and use offensive, culturally inappropriate words.

Chiem told Tuoi Tre that Dai, the CD author, refused to meet with the cultural inspectorate and his department will insistently ask him two more times to do so.

If Dai still won’t cooperate, the department will transfer the case to police.

The CD, which sounds like poem recitations rather than a musical work, has caused quite a stir among the public following an article listing the offensive words it uses.

Dai told Tuoi Tre that he doesn’t really care about this, as he did just what his heart desires.

Dai added that his friends and fans took most of the 1,000 CDs produced, with only some 50 left.
