What the father of Nguyen Linh Chi, an eight-year-old limbless girl, shared on Facebook on May 23 upon his daughter’s meeting with Nick Vujicic has attracted huge attention and empathy among local netizens.
The Facebook entry, written by Nguyen Dinh Nam, Chi’s father, has attracted thousands of likes.
Just like Nick Vujicic, Chi, who is living in northern Yen Bai province, was born limbless. The little girl kept asking her parents why her limbs are missing, but now she has gradually learned to accept being different from her peers.
Her loving parents try everything they can to teach their daughter to overcome her disability and be independent as much as possible. After lots of excruciating, patient practice, Chi, a first-grader in a school with normal kids, can now move on her own, hold things and write slowly by gripping the objects with her neck, chin and shoulders.
However, she’s sometimes upset when she gets teased by some of her friends.
Nam shared that as the family often let Chi watch online clips on Nick Vujicic to hearten her on, they were set on seeking an opportunity for her to meet her idol in person during his first trip to Vietnam.
After lots of efforts, Nam finally managed to get his daughter to see Nick in a moving meeting at the Hanoi’s My Dinh stadium on May 23.
Chi drew Nick with her neck, chin and shoulders and gave him two paintings, in which she represented Nick as a rectangular torso like hers, at the meeting.
Chi is a third-generation Agent Orange victim. Her father and younger brother both suffer from blood allergy.
The difference between Chi and Nick Vujicic is that her tiny arm stubs slowly grow each year, but the growth causes the stubs to ooze with pus and gives her excruciating pain and discomfort.
