Hue locals and authorities on June 30 paid homage to the heroes who perished in the failed resistance against French troops 128 years ago.
The event was simultaneously held at several Am Hon (Spirits) worshipping edifices and temples throughout Hue, the country’s former imperial capital, and neighboring areas, and will run for a week.
This is the city’s hallmark traditional ritual to honor the national heroes who were killed during the attacks launched by the Nguyen dynasty’s troops, led by general Ton That Thuyet, against French troops in 1885. Thuyet’s troops were crushed, and like the northern region, Hue fell under French rule.
