Ton That Phuoc Dien, 20, from Ho Chi Minh City, was named winner of the 2013 Beyond The Cover book cover designing contest on July 2.
Dien pocketed a VND10 mil (US$475) prize at the contest, jointly launched by the Bookaholic Club and 15 local publishers and aimed to look for young book cover designers and to produce gorgeous covers to be printed by the publishers.
With his three cover designs for the Vietnamese versions of the three books, “Innovator's dilemma” by Clayton M. Christensen, “Starter for ten” by David Nicholls and “Kira-kira”, a popular children’s book by Cynthia Kadohata, Dien won critical acclaim from the jury for his innovativeness, and striking and effective use of colors, word fonts and layouts.
At the earlier rounds, Dien’s design for “Mariana” was printed and released by Bach Viet Co. and Lao Dong Publisher.
The second prize went to Pham Thi Thuy, 25, from northern Hai Phong city.
In its fourth year, the Beyond The Cover attracted over 150 contestants throughout the country and ran from early April to July 2.
