The Voice Kids Vietnam stage’s glass panel collapses during 2nd live show

The Voice Kids Vietnam stage’s glass panel collapses during 2nd live show

Young contestants and audiences at the 2nd season of the Vietnamese version of Dutch singing reality show “The Voice Kids” were quite stunned as during its second live show in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday night, one of the glass panels gave way, disrupting the show.

The incident took place halfway into the performance of the live show’s first contestant Ha Trang, who was singing a folk song with the illustration of a group of young dancers.

Without warning, one of the glass panels on the stage broke apart and collapsed as soon as a cameraman stepped onto the main stage to film Trang’s performance, causing him to fall into the hole.   Unable to see the hole in the smoke-filled stage, two of the young dancers also fell down to the astonishment of their fellow performers, audiences, and television viewers.

The mishap brought Trang’s performance to a halt and disrupted the entire show.

Commercials and video clips in which the contestants introduced themselves were quickly broadcast while the show staff replaced the collapsed glass panel and those surrounding it.

The incident bewildered the eight remaining contestants, who then had to stay put and avoid moving around on the stage during their performances.

Representatives of the show organizer said that this was the first time such an incident had happened.

They were puzzled at why the toughened glass typically used on stages in Vietnam could break apart, and are investigating the cause.

The cameraman and two young dancers were not seriously injured and will receive compensation from the organizer, they asserted.

The show’s third live show will air live on national television channel VTV3 at 9:10 pm next Saturday night, September 6.

Despite its unexpected success, the first season of “The Voice Kids Vietnam” ended in September last year with certain controversy as before the finale, two dispatches thought to be issued by authorities in the central province of Thanh Hoa surfaced online.

In the documents, the authorities called on local officials, teachers, and students to vote for Quang Anh, a Thanh Hoa resident, who was later named winner of the season.

The reality show was also under fire for its use of adult songs and undue preference for English lyrics, as well as the loss of the kids’ innocence to some extent due to adults’ interference.
