The Yxine Film Fest, an online short film festival which kicks off on Friday, will feature short films by directors from different countries.
This year’s fest, which follows the theme of “Dreamers,” will open at www.yxineff.com with a short film titled “Contrebande” (Contraband), by director Julien Smith, a French expat in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is the world premiere of the film.
“Contrebande,” one of the 11 films in the festival’s Local Competition category, addresses the social issue of whether we should continue consuming meat at our current rate.
The flick will be available online from this Friday until the festival’s closing on December 1.
The 2014 YxineFF, a Vietnamese project, received some 200 short film submissions from around the world.
The selection board has picked 76 flicks for different categories.
Its International Competition category’s list includes 12 short films from Brazil, Thailand, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, the U.S., South Korea, the Philippines, Israel, and Vietnam.
The closing and awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 1.
Awards include Best Film, Directing, Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Male Performance, Female Performance, Best Production, Audience’s Choice, Best Documentary on Sustainable Development, Best LGBT-Themed Film, and Best Film by the Press-Critic Jury.
Since April this year, YxineFF has organized captivating film events for cinema lovers and young filmmakers, such as the Fun Film Fair, Children’s Cinema Day, Rainbow Cinema Night, and a screening and panel discussion called “After Short Films.”
Launched in 2010, YxineFF is a volunteer, non-profit and independent project that aims to share passion for cinema and filmmaking among enthusiasts around the world.
