An awards ceremony was organized on Sunday evening to honor 12 outstanding young entrepreneurs, part of the ASEAN+3 Young Entrepreneurs Forum currently running in Ho Chi Minh City.

Within the framework of the forum, 12 young entrepreneurs from 12 member nations of the ASEAN+3 were awarded the “Young Entrepreneurs Toward the ASEAN+3 Economic Community’s Sustainable Development” title.

Lam Ngoc Minh, general director of a mattress firm, was the Vietnamese representative honored with the prestigious award.

The award is aimed at recognizing and encouraging young businesspeople to strive for sustainable development, and dedicate their ability to the community.

It is also set to raise awareness and enhance cooperation for the sustainable development of each member state of the ASEAN, ASEAN+3 as well as the international community.

ASEAN, short for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is comprised of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

ASEAN+3 is a mechanism that includes ASEAN and Japan, China and South Korea.

To be considered for the award, the young entrepreneurs have to be founders or co-founders of business startups preferably in the field of education, health care, and social service, the Vietnam News Agency quoted Pham Phuong Chi, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Youth Federation.

Their companies’ products should be eco-friendly, creative, and showcase the application of modern technology and possess high traditional value, Chi said.

The ASEAN+3 Young Entrepreneurs Forum is held by the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation.

The event runs from December 11 to 14, with the participation of 65 young entrepreneurs, young leaders, and officials from the ASEAN+3 cooperation mechanism.

It aims to emphasize the importance of regional sustainable economic development, to highlight the important role of young entrepreneurs in reaching the goals of establishing the ASEAN Economic Community in particular and contributing to the building of an ASEAN Community for sustainable development in general.
